Gauteng
Gauteng (the Sotho term for "Place of Gold")
Despite being the smallest of South Africa's nine provinces, Gauteng (the Sotho term for "Place of Gold") is the country's and indeed southern Africa's commercial and industrial powerhouse. Gauteng is a diverse, multicultural melting pot of individuals from all walks of life from all over the world. Gauteng's history is intertwined with the discovery of gold; today, Gauteng not only has one of the best infrastructures, but its population of over 9 million people is part of a vibrant mix of energy and diversity that makes it one of Africa's wealthiest provinces and South Africa's entertainment epicenter.
The main draw of Gauteng is a huge business, but there's so much more... museums, galleries, and historical battlefields. Gauteng is also a playground for amusement, with world-class restaurants, shebeens, shopping malls, and music venues. Gauteng is by far the busiest province in the country; no one seems to rest in Gauteng, and the culture is one of metropolitan luxury and a work hard, party hard mindset. Johannesburg has an exceptional nightlife, with many of the country's top nightclubs, restaurants, and clubs located here. It's also a shopping paradise, with malls selling foreign designer items alongside locally manufactured fashions — a great place to pick up some proudly South African high fashion.
